What I See: Iron Man
Ever since I heard about the Iron Man movie and game based on it, I've been happier than a Japanese dude picking school girl undies at a vending machine. But, since then I have been a little worried about the game. As, more and more videos come out, I have been noticing some issues. First off, the camera when Iron-Man takes flight seems to be horrible, doesn't really show where he is headed, I don't know, it maybe because the game features a free camera option and the person playing it wanna show it off, if not that...the camera needs some work. Also, I noticed how easy the game was. Yea, I know it is a beta version and all, but at such vast spaces, our protagonist should be facing armies, not 20 soldiers and 5 helicopters. Maybe I am wrong, I hope.... Until the game comes out, and I get to test it, here is a video to let you be the judge.

Weekend Talk: In-game Ads

These days, it is very hard for developers to come up with ground breaking games, because it's so tough to come up with cash, especially next-gen titles. On average, developing cost of a well built AAA title ranges between $10-20M, Gears of War, without the cost of developing UT3 Engine reached $10 Million. The higher price of creating a game comes from a few factors; the pressure to make gorgeous looking games that came with the jump from standard television to HDTV, the complexity of next-gen architecture, advertisement and event (these days, with hot titles like Halo, publishers need to call celebs and host a party)and so on. Thus, the price of game units went up $10,from $49.99 to $59.99. However, the rise of costs spawned another idea, inclusion of in-game ads to cut down expenses. In theory it is a good idea, if big corporations pay big bucks to display their ads in a game that reaches millions, then everyone from developers to publisher, to us gamers should be saving money...but, where are the savings? So, it seems when the big dogs of developers and publishers jump on the money, up gamers get left out. Well, I say until they pass the savings onto us, I will not buy any game that features in-game ads, nor do i think any other gamer should. This has been my very first weekend talk, I hope you all enjoyed it.

Nasdaq warns Atari
Atari has received its third Staff Determination from the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Department. This letter threatens that if Atari is unable to comply with the Nasdaq Marketplace Rule 4450, which lists the standards a company must meet to be part of the NASDAQ exchange, then the company will be delisted.
The company will request a hearing with the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Panel in order to make the case that the company should remain listed in light of the pending acquisition by Infogrames Entertainment of Atari. However, this reasoning does not guarantee that the panel will allow Atari to remain on the market.
Stick it To The Man!!!
So, it turns out Take Two's shareholders feel the same way as the company does when it comes to EA buying out 51% of shares at $26 a share. "Our board, after careful review, has unanimously determined that Electronic Art's offer continues to provide insufficient value and continues to remain unopportunistically timed to capture the value of the upcoming Gran Theft Auto IV launch at the expense of our stockholders" Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick explained.
The Board also confirmed that it will explore alternatives to maximize value for stockholders, which may include a business combination with third parties or with EA, remaining independent, or other strategic or financial alternatives that could deliver higher stockholder value than the current EA offer. The Board has commenced a process for considering strategic alternatives in order to be prepared to engage in discussions with any parties, including EA, interested in a strategic business combination following Take-Two’s release of Grand Theft Auto IV, scheduled for April 29, 2008. The Board continues to believe that the Company will be best positioned, from the perspective of both value and timing, to conduct such a review at that time.

Yo Soy El Army....Half an Army At Least
It’s time to make some new friends, or make sure you hang around people who are also gamers, because Army of Two is here. The game starts off in Somalia back in 1993, when our two protagonists are still enlisted Army Rangers. Which is when they are approached by SSC (Security and Strategy Corporation), a Black Water-like Private Military Company. From there on the story takes us through modern day Afghanistan, Iraq, an Aircraft Carrier-USS Constellation, China and Miami with a few twists.
AoT, as the name suggests focuses on two player coop at all times, even when playing single player thanks to integrated PAI (Partner Artificial Intelligence). Action plays out quite similar to Gears of War, as they are both third person shooters with Resident Evil 4 like camera angles, but the accuracy of weapons and fun factor…not so much. Thankfully enemies know exactly what kind of weaponry I have, because no matter what they use themselves, I find ammo for my gun. Otherwise I would run out of ammo trying to fill my Aggro meter. Which is short for getting enemy’s attention. The meter fills up as you shoot around emptying magazine after magazine, so that your partner can go around killing people without ever getting seen. EVEN IF HE WALKS ACROSS THE MAP in plain sight. Which leads to boring game-play, because got through the entire game by doing so. Also there are some AI issues, such as; if I set my buddy on aggressive advancing mode, he literally will take out the entire enemy faction faster than a T800 Arnie, so long as I keep my aggro level high.
But, that is only the single player mode…if you have a friend who knows generally how to play shooting games, the experience is that much better….not. I couldn’t bring myself to say that, because the enemy AI is still the same, if one player has aggro, they become oblivious to the existence of the other dude running around with body armor and skull masks. Also, the giant life bars floating over the enemies really look dated.
Graphics: 8
It’s what we have com to expect from UT3 engine. Nice and shiny graphics, then again level design consists of rather small spaces, so rendering highly detailed models shouldn’t be so hard. Good physics though, especially as USS Constellation is sinking
Sounds: 7
The weapons sound real nice, but those cheesy one-liners have got to stop.
Controls: 7
Weapons accuracy levels could have been better, also when near an enemy, the game doesn’t seem to realize if I want to smack them or shoot them.
Tilt: 6
It is just too gimmicky, and a lot of times boring.
Overall: 7
EA tried to break new grounds by making a coop only game, but that is just too circumstantial. Unless the other person is on the same level as the player, it just doesn’t feel fun.

Dark Sector First Reviews
The highly anticipated game is almost here and some sources have already given their reviews. But will Agent Hayden catch the glaive, or will it slice his fingers like that dude in Mad Max 3?
So far, it hasn't been too good for Dark Sector, as it received an average of 7.6 from both Game Informer and IGN. Andrew Reiner of Game Informer (whom I trust more than most editors) even went so far as calling it a ''one trick pony''. So what is going for Dark Sector? Well, according to reviews the game seems to have excellent presentation both sound and visual department, so that's a plus...but I saywait for my review, because sometimes these editors play so many games that they get confused or something and end up giving a perfectly good game a bad review.
If you insist on taking a look for yourselves, here is where you can read the review of Reiner.

Gibson suit against Guitar Hero
Activision has slammed guitar maker Gibson over its Guitar Hero lawsuit targeting the video game publisher and several US retailers.
Gibson claims in the suit that Guitar Hero violates a patent registered in 1999 for a platform that "simulates a musical performance".
The federal lawsuit filed last week names US retailers Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, GameStop and Amazon, and follows a similar suit against Activision earlier this month.
"Activision continues to believe that Gibson's claims are disingenuous and lack any justification," the company said in an official statement.
"Gibson's lawsuit is a transparent end run around an impartial court that Activision asked on 11 March to rule on patent assertions that Gibson knows have no merit."
Activision maintained that its Guitar Hero retail partners "have done nothing wrong" and that it will actively tackle any efforts by Gibson to "wrongfully interfere with Activision's relationship with its customers and its consumers".
The publisher also claimed that Gibson waited three years to make its patent allegations, and only did so after it became clear that Activision was not interested in renewing its marketing and support agreement with Gibson

GTA:IV Content
Rockstar just announced on their website that the final trailer for the highly anticipated GTA:IV will debut on 3.27.2008. The trailer is called "Good Lord, What Are You Doing?" AKA "Everyone is a Rat!" also you can find widgets for the game's radio channels with unforgetable names such as; Liberty Swingers and Banging Trash Can Lids For An Hour.
Here is a video of one of the many hang out spots in the game...
Project Origin- Fear Alma Again video
Monolith, the makers of such titles as F.E.A.R. and Condemned series, is looking to scare us once again with a sequel to F.E.A.R. named Project Origin- due to Vivendi games' ownership of the previous title. This is the latest video released by Monolith and WB Games, enjoy.
Bad, Bad Company
According to rumours leaked by a game tester for Battlefield: Bad Company, EA is planning on charging to unlock some of the weapons used in the game. 10 in all, although it is said that five of these weapons would come unlocked with Gold Edition of the game, gamers will still have to pay for the other five and those who buy regular version will have to pay for all ten of them. And given EA's record for supposed DLCs(because the contents were on the disc to begin with) in recent Need For Speed titles, this rumour is not far from reality. And, I personally think it is ridiculous for them to ask us gamers to pay $59.99 for a game and then turn around and try to charge us these fees to unlock something that should already come with the game to begin with. if it were the other Battlefield DICE is working on, which is set to come out for free on PC, I wouldn't mind being charged for weapons. But when players are asked to pay for content like such, that GRINDS MY GEARS!!!

Jack Thompson Sanctioned by Florida Supreme Court
In today's news, I'm pleased to announce all gamers that Miami attorney Jack Thompson will no longer be able to file anything directly to Florida Supreme Court, instead he will need to hire an attorney who will be investigated by BAR.
Here is a passage quoted from court's orders:
This Court cannot allow its judicial processes to be misused by Tasse(Jack
Thompson) to malign and insult those persons and institutions which have
been unfortunate enough to come in contact with Tasse. Tasse has litigated the
matters he raised in his petition repeatedly, and this is not the first time
Tasse has filed scandalous pleadings in this Court. This Court has the authority
and the duty to prevent the misuse and abuse of the judicial system. It is clear
that Tasse is unable to maintain the bare minimum standard of decorum and
respect for the judicial system that all litigants must have when filing court
pleadings and seeking court rulings. Since Tasse cannot meet that standard and
cannot conduct himself with that basic level of decency, we are forced to forbid
Tasse from filing any further pro se pleadings in this Court.
You can read entire court order here.

Console Wars: The Toxic Menace
Since the day they were announced, our current consoles have been in a fierce battle, who will win?...is Sony doomed?, What on earth is a Wii?...and so on. But now, Greenpeace has come up with its version of console battle; who makes the greenest product? And I have to say, finally I have seen Wii lose in something.
According to the article of Greenpeace.org, Sony is the current leader by both having a recycling plan and pushing for toxic free products (though PS3 is not yet one of them), despite being most power inefficient(128W when idle).
Second to the throne is Microsoft. They have plans to eliminate toxic chemicals but not until 2011, 360's are currently non-recyclable. 360's power efficiency 98W when idle.
I guess Nintendo is still hurting from Gamecube losses so they are trying to save money by cutting corners at the expense of environment, because it turns out they neither have no plans or research going on to eliminate toxic chemicals used to make the console, nor do they have a recylable product. But it does have one plus side, Wii uses only 15w when idle. Well, I guess one doesn't need energy when it uses last generation technology.

Games-as-porn ????
As reported on Gamepolitics.com, tomorrow in Massachusetts, the legislature will hold a hearing about House Bill 1423; a video game measure which helps prevent minors from obtaining M rated games.
It is said that the bill resembles the Jack Thompson-authorised Louisiana video game law, ruled unconstitutional by a U.S. District Court judge in 2006.(HB1423 is a “games-as-porn” bill which would seek to restrict minors from buying violent video games under the same rationale used to block them from buying sexually explicit materials. That is, HB1423 would define violent games as harmful to minors in the same legal sense as pornography. From the bill:
Matter is harmful to minors if it is obscene or, if taken as a whole, it… depicts violence in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community, so as to appeal predominantly to the morbid interest in violence of minors; is patently contrary to prevailing standards of adults in the county where the offense was committed… and lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value for minors.); Gamepolitics.com.
So far nobody knows why Mass. wants to pursue such a bill, given their failure rate.
But what can I say, Thompson is at it again, as he claimed to take role in this bill.
On today's Boston Herald, Mike Underwood says; “Children aged 17 and under should not be sold this stuff, so they are not getting into the hands of 9- and 10-year-olds,” said Larry Mayes, Menino’s chief of human services.
“Is it going to be an uphill battle? Sure. But it’s absolutely a battle that the mayor feels he should take on.”
My Personal Take On the Issue:
I think, the game industry has been doing a good job with ESRB rating system. But, the situation has come thus far, because retailers AND PARENTS, let's not forget, fail to keep minors from getting their hands on those M-rated games. So, it would be so much healthier if retailers had to enter birthday of the person in the register just like it is done when buying alcoholic beverages or tobacco products. Also, if parents are buying that kind of games to their children, there is no one to blame but them.

Things I would like to see changed on Call of Duty 4
Without a doubt, one of the best multiplayer experiences is Call of Duty 4. But that doesn’t mean it is without a chink in its armor. First of all this game needs a new clan system; if SOCOM 2: US NAVY SEALS could implement a solid clan base on Playstation 2, I’m very certain CoD4 would be able to on 360 and PS3. Also not being able to choose what maps I would like to play unless I’m hosting the game is quite annoying. Again I’m referring to SOCOM 2, but when I logged onto that game, on the first page I’d see those who are online in my clan, being part of that clan meant something, it was invitational, not just a four letter tag that person himself would create.
Then there is the missing customization both on a (non-existent) clan and personal level. Even Counter-Strike would let players choose how they’d like to look. I would like to be able to at least choose one of five different characters that are presented in the beginning of the game instead of getting in the game finding out I am some Middle Eastern dude with aviator sun glasses and a bright red beret.
I will personally pass these issues to Infinity Ward via e-mail and phone; hopefully they can work these ideas into the already great game.
Devil May Cry 4 Review
I just recently had a chance to get my hands on the latest game from one of my all time favorite franchises, Devil May Cry. And what a treat it is for those who love the original, with responsive controls, amazing boss battles and gorgeous character models and at times bland background; it is a true reminder of why people loved the series so much. One thing that differs this installment from all other DMC titles is the main character, despite being a huge part of the story and a playable character later on, Dante is NOT the one who catches spot lights this time around, instead we get to play with Nero,-who looks like Dante’s cousin if not a brother- the young and defiant warrior of a Sparta worshipping cult called “Order of the Sword”. He also has special powers like Dante, although his powers come from his left arm in the form of Devil Bringer rather than turning into a demon like Dante does.
Dmc4 makes its jump to next-gen with absolutely beautiful character models and the use of “Devil Bringer” which game makers suggest could not have been done on PS2 and XBOX. And manages to feel like old-gen titles with its sound effects, although voice acting is done better than first three titles combined, there is no excuse for old school grunts and that way too many times recycled jump effects. Also, it would have been a lot nicer to have some water animation as Nero runs through some wet areas such as sewers.
GRAPHICS: 8.5
It is tried and true formula for the series, keep characters as crisp as possible while totally alienating level designs at times. Yet it still keeps most backgrounds looking decent and very vivid in colors, especially She Viper level.
SOUNDS: 7
The game uses too much of the old sound files from prequels. And then it turns around to surprise us with really good voice acting.
CONTROLS: 9.5
Just what I would expect from Capcom…extremely responsive controls with a good controller lay-out, it doesn’t have anything new though. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right?
TILT: 9
For me this has been the best DMC title since I played the first one. Going through the game I actually felt the same way as I did then.
OVERALL: 8.75
When playing a game, if it has been four hours without you ever realizing it, then it must be great game. And this is one that will make you forget about time, so play on the weekends or when you have no plans for later. It would have been a 9/10 had it not taken 10 minutes to cache on my PS3.

Coming Sooon
Hey my five or six readers...Soon , probably by Tuesday, I will be reviewing Army of Two or Devil May Cry...and I have already reserved my copy of Dark Sector, so within 2-3 days of its release, you will get the full scoop on it.
How Do You Like Them Apples??
The internet has been going crazy recently...Why?... I tell you why, because Apple has announced its Software Development Kit for iPhone. So, it is official...Apple is entering handheld territory or maybe it is tried and failed ngage territory. To top the story, EA and SEGA have already confirmed developing iPhone versions of Spore and Monkey Ball.
Get Your Hand Blades Ready!
I don't know how many of you will remember, but Dark Sector by Digital Extremes was the first game ever announced for next-gen (Ps3, xbox 360) consoles, back in 2004. Then came the consoles...first 360 in '05 and Ps3 in '06, yet there was no sign of Dark Sector, the game that was in production for, at least a year before 360's release...then out of the blue in mid 2006, appeared a video of the game. It didn't look anything like media we had been shown in '04, it had gone from the space action game to something that appears to take place in eastern Europe with a January 2008 release date. Since the 2006 appearance Digital Extremes had kept us wanting by posting a quite steady flow of videos. And, eventhough the game couldn't make its January release,it seems the game has seen enough tweaks and is set for March 25th to meet with us gamers, on store shelves.

My Review of 'The Club'
Title: The Club
Developer: Bizarre Creations
Producer: Sega
Game Rating: 7 / 10
‘The Club’ has the same feel of old school shooters; fun, fast game-play with zero depth. I could even say this high octane action is almost like, putting high octane gas in a Geo Metro... you can put all the supreme as you can, but that car still ain't going over 80mph. The game is about an underground tournament where some rich people place explosive microchips in the participants’ heads which are set to blow up should they decide to wander off or disobey the rules, such as not making it to the finish line on time. But the game gets is replay value from its point system. So, not only are the players to get from one place to the other, or stay alive for a certain amount of time, but also do it in style. Killing two baddies in one explosion or killing with headshots are pluses. So, is keeping high accuracy.
So, the game basically consists of various locations with seven levels on each (Five types of events), on which you will play as one of the six available characters, with a 7th unlocked after the fourth location and an 8th if you can go through the entire game.
Graphics
Although it may have some “next-gen” hair movement animations, the rest of the games graphics engine could be pulled off by the original Xbox. The character animation looks dated, background –though destructible to some degree- looks somewhat bland. Overall, I most likely would have liked to see a game like this, had it come out on Arcade.
Sound
There are some nice touches like the enemy A.I. yelling at the player and between each other (with appropriate accents at some levels), but the weapon sounds are rather lackluster.
Game-play
There really isn’t much to say here…pretty much run and gun, with occasional hitting with weapons’ butt once cornered.
